this past weekend we went to palermo. they had some beautiful churches there.
it was a fun time!
we ate at a restaurant that had some GOOD meat (not found often in Italy)!
tomorrow is mt etna!
this is my last week here and i am kinda sad but at the same time excited for the next leg of the trip!

again...i havent posted since last monday.
last monday evening we had cooking class. it was pretty bad. they served us salami.
i'm not sure if i've written about the catacombs. well we visited them last week. it was pretty interesting and chilly...
thursday i had a sort of private italian lesson. well it was 3 students and the teacher so we had a lot of one on one.
we had thursday through sunday off. thursday we didn't do too much. friday and saturday we went to the lovely beach. sunday we didn't do very much of anything.
today we looked at the temple of apollo. it is over 2,600 years old! and still standing.
anyway..that's all for now.
oh yeah. i got the best bread this morning at the market! yumm

since last monday
wow...i didn't realize i hadnt posted since last monday. the internet here sucks. it is so slow so i kinda try and stay off of it because im afraid i might have a freak out in this quiet internet place. inside i am boiling right now. i have been trying to get on here for about an hour....and once im done writing this it better freakin save.
anyway back to wonderful italy
i am still enjoying myself tremendously. since last monday a lot has happened. today we decided to try and walk to mcdonalds in the rain. mcdonalds is like a mile away on the main island and we had to walk through puddles, through the warehouse area where men were wearning bright orange reflective pants and yelling cat calls, with no side walks. but it was worth it. it was wonderful.
yesterday we went to the beach. really fun. it was kind of cloudy but good. saturday we slept most of the day because it was rainy. we had a wine party at the apt just like friday night.
friday we went to Noto Antica and New Noto. This is a place settled by Muslims. Italy by the way was a Muslim country for two centuries. cool fact to know. Noto Antica was really cool. It's not really a city anymore. it was destroyed in the earthquake of 1693 and never rebuilt, instead they moved 8 years later to new noto. anyway it was beautiful. its a ghost town that is over grown with overgrowth lol. we had class out there which was awesome.
wednesday we looked inside the duomo. that's the church/cathedral. it was really cool. it used to be a roman temple and was converted into a christian church but still has the origonal columns.
tuesday we went to see Herakles in a real greek theatre. Thank God we had to read the play beforehand because it was in italian. i really liked it though.
monday we had a scavenger hunt all over the city. we discovered some new cool things around the city. we also had cooking class at this traditional sicilian restaurant. we didnt cook really. we just watched and sampled the food. yummy stuff.
im not sure if i have already written about the venus...but sunday we went to the museo archeologico and saw the venus!!!
we have "cooking class" again which im pretty excited about.

fun fun fun
the castello eurialo was really interesting. it was built pre-bc and is still stanging. it's a point high on a hill that looks out over most of the land which was a good spot for defending.
sunday we had class also. we went to see the statue of the Venus, the goddess of love. it was amazing! we sat and talked about it for about 2 hours. you can get so much out of one piece of art by just asking certain questions and contemplating their answers.
sunday was a huge fùtbol game for siracusa. our professor told us about the game and some of us decided to go. that was one of the best experiences i've had thus far. it was so cool to see the pride for the team. the thing about this game was that if they won they would move from D league to C league...which doesnt mean they are bad, they are actually really fricken good. we all bought siracusa scarves (only £5) and tied them around our waist because everyone else was doing the same thing and we wanted to be like real fans. lmao. they ended up winning and all the players took off all their clothes and were walking around in their undies! ahahahaha interesting tradition. later that evening we went to dinner at this GREAT restaurant. omg it was so good! the waiters were funny too!
today (moday) we went around ortigia (the island) and had a scavenger hunt...pretty cool. i'll probably go to the rocks this afternoon. later we have italian lessons! im pretty excited about it!

in siracusa
we moved into our apartment yesterday afternoon. it is really nice! i love the tile. it's huge white marble squares. our room is nice, not small, and we have our own bathroom (ashley and i). we have a mini balcony, you can take one step out and that's it. lol. the shower isnt bad at all.
last night we went to dinner and a bar. it was really fun! we met some italian's who want us to go to the disco-teca with them. lol. fredrico, fabio, john carlo, bennedecto, and some others. lol. they are so nice. they try to speak english to us....they are lovin the american girls. it was fun

first and second day :)
okayeee
so at this moment i just had a mojito....really really strong. and im kinda feeling it in my eyes and hands.
yesterday was the long flight....or maybe three days...depending on...well anyways. the flight over to lodon wasnt bad. it was 9 hours but didnt feel like it. they had screens for each person and we got to choose what movie we watched. i watched pursuit of happiness. and we got a 3 course meal!! chicken and rice. good desert. ok getting to the good part. we got to london and were like ok...next, on to catania. we went through another security check and went up to look at the screen to find out what gate to go to. what did the screen say????? flight cancelled...??? what are we supposed to do? we went to the information desk and they told us that the air traffic control in italy was on strike. we went back to the ticket counter and first the guy told us there were no flights available for the rest of the week. BUT!!! as soon as miss ashley said we had a class starting on the 24th they found us a seat in the morning. the guy was super helpful. they put us in a hotel and fed us breakfast, lunch, and dinner! yay! we met some ladies who had been to london before and hung with them. they had had the same problem with their flight. we went to harrod's, a five level department store. it was really fun. then we left our friends and walked around london. it was so fun! i liked it!
food at hotel was good
ok...on to the next day....we got to the airport on time and checked in. they put us in first class whaaaaaat. we got to go to an executive lounge for free breakfast. flight was short. ok....so catania...we couldnt find the bus. then found it. didnt know where to get off. showed the bus driver that we wanted to go to agora hostel. he told us to get off right then. we got off and had no idea where to go. we went into a book store and a hooootttt italian buff man told us where to go. we walked through so fish smelling sh*t and eventually found the hostel. it's like i expected. and they have happy hour!!!! yeah! we walked all over this city. the buildings are amazing!!! beautiful architecture! and in the park there were old men playing cards!!! i loved it.ù
tomorrow free breakfast and back to the airport to be picked up to go to siracusa.

p.s. the guys here know english words like sexy and number one! lol. they also do the ch ch thing like mexicans but it sounds more like sss sss lmao (laughing my ass off...this is for those who think it meant lame-o)

Almost Ready
So on Sunday I leave to Dallas and Monday we leave to Italy. I am pretty excited and nervous.
